Types of Under-Sink Shutoff Valves

There are different types of under-sink shutoff valves. One of the most important types is the shut-off valve, also called a stop valve. A shut-off valve does just what it says. If it is closed, no water will flow through it. Another type is called a butterfly valve. Here is a description of each type of valve. Read on to find the right one for your needs.

Angle stop valves

Angle stops are small valves that are installed beneath a sink or appliance. They are inexpensive and can save you thousands of dollars in water damage and convenience costs. While these valves are highly resilient, they do need periodic maintenance. Keeping your angle stop valves functioning properly is an important step to protecting your home from water damage. Here are some tips to keep your angle stop valves functioning properly. – Exercise angle stops once a month. By turning the knob on and off repeatedly, the valve will be more durable and prevent freezing. Always remember not to force them! By exerting too much force, you may break the valve.

– Choose an angle stop according to the type of pipe that exits the wall. Generally, angle stop valves are made of brass or chrome-plated metal and are very durable. To install one, you must first tighten the supply tube attached to the discharge port of the angle stop. Next, place the wrench on the nut, which is a 3/8-inch compression nut. Then, tighten it by turning it clockwise. – Select the correct installation method.

Brass or copper

When choosing a valve for your under-sink plumbing, you should be able to determine if it is brass or copper. Each material has its unique benefits and disadvantages. The differences between these materials range from their looks to their abilities. You should also consider the cost when deciding which type of valve is best for your application. Copper and brass valves are both highly durable, but they do cost more.

When choosing a valve, make sure to consider the type of pipes that will be running through it. You can buy a valve that has a quarter-turn feature to stop the water flow immediately if a leak occurs near a fixture. Ensure that the valve you choose fits the pipe type, and is orientated correctly. Copper or brass shutoff valves are also more durable than their counterparts.

PAX

APEX under-sink shutoff valve provides a convenient, easy way to stop the flow of water in the sink. Unlike traditional shutoff valves, PEX valves are not attached to the sink or need any fastening. Rather, they connect to flexible PEX tubing, which should be installed as close to the wall as possible. This valve allows you to easily install it and prevent any possible installation errors.

The PEX under-sink shutoff valve works by connecting to the water supply line. PEX pipes are fitted with a pre-installed hardener, which should be left in place. Once inserted, a valve handle is turned clockwise to close. The lever should be perpendicular to the pipe and valve body. The valve should be installed by a licensed plumber, as well as in a bathroom.

Butterfly valves

These valves work similarly to other types of faucets and shutoffs. Their name derives from the butterfly-shaped mechanism that enables them to control flow in two ways, by either completely opening or closing. The butterfly valve can also function as a throttling valve. Some varieties also feature locking mechanisms on the handle. These valves are lightweight, compact, and easy to install. They are most often used for the control of large volumes of water or gas. For this reason, many wastewater treatment plants and municipal water supply lines use butterfly valves.

Unlike a butterfly valve, a compression valve requires a special tool to install. These valves are designed to fit onto a copper water supply line and require a minimum of one inch of exposed tubing. They are the most common type of under-sink water shutoff, due to their ease of installation. Unlike other valve types, though, compression valves have a high rate of leakage when shutting off the water.
