Seven Foods That You Should Be Eating

The secret to a healthier lifestyle is all in the food that you consume.  Of course, not all foods are the same, nor do they produce the same benefits.  Therefore, choosing certain foods to eat regularly is crucial if you intend to live a healthy lifestyle.  If you strive to become physically healthy, you will notice a difference in the quality of your life based on how you generally feel.

In this particular article, we are going to focus on foods that are beneficial when it comes to energy and overall good health.

1. Fruits

Fruits are highly beneficial because they contain antioxidants such as vitamin C and vitamin A.  These antioxidants enhance the immune system by lowering the risk of common illnesses, and even cancers.  Fruits such as berries (blueberries, blackberries, acai berry) contain a large quantity of antioxidants.  However, other fruits such as apples contain more fiber, roughly 4 to 5 grams.

2. Yogurt

Yogurt is beneficial due to the fact that is rich in calcium, which is vital for bone density.  It also contains vitamin D, as wells as protein.  If you are going to consume yogurt on a regular basis, the low fat or fat free choices are recommended.  In fact, frozen yogurt is a fine alternative to ice cream, which contains a higher quantity of sugar and calories.

3. Nuts

Peanuts, almonds, walnuts, pistachios, and pecans are nuts that are high in protein.  They also have a high fat content.  However, do not trick yourself into not eating them, as they contain the good fats.  Not only are nuts a good source of protein but they are known to help when it comes to lowering cholesterol.  When eating nuts, it is best to eat the ones that are free from additives.

4. Oatmeal

Oatmeal is beneficial because it is considered a high fiber food.  It is also filling, therefore, you will not be hungry and tempted to snack later. The soluble fiber contained in oatmeal is also known to lower cholesterol levels.

5. Beans

Like nuts, beans such as kidney beans, lentil beans, and navy beans are high in protein.  On the other hand, unlike nuts, beans are much lower in fat content.  They are also lower in calories as well as carbohydrates.  In addition, beans are high in fiber.  Beans also contain thiamin, foliate, and Vitamin B6, as well as nutrients such as calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, and potassium.

6. Salmon

Salmon is one of the most beneficial and healthy meats you can consume.  It is high in omega 3, which reduces the risk of any heart ailments.  Studies also show that omega 3 reduces the risk of eye-related ailments, and even forms of cancer.  Salmon is generally high in protein and amino acids but low in fat.

7. Vegetables

There are many types of vegetables we can discuss, and they all are beneficial in one way or the other.  For example, peppers consist of antioxidants such as vitamin C and beta-carotene.  Meanwhile, other vegetables such as onions and garlic may not have the most desirable aroma, but they are beneficial, as they are known to lower cholesterol, as well as blood pressure.  Vegetables consist of non-starch polysaccharides, or NSP, which reduces excess water in the colon.  The fibers in vegetables help maintain regular bowel movements, as well as avoiding ailments such as hemorrhoids and colon cancer.
