1. Planning
The first step is to make sure you have all the colours you need to create the art that you are envisioning. To do this it is important to have an idea of the scale and type of project you want to start. You should research and gather spray paints that of high quality and that are reputable in the market. Seek out tutorials online and learn from the best graffiti artists on the streets so you can execute stunning artwork.
2. Smooth Start
Make sure that your canvas is smooth so you can avoid any bumps, grains, and imperfections in your artwork. Before starting to ensure that you sand the surface and apply two coats of primer. Sanding the primer will flatten raised grains and provide you with a smooth surface to paint and spray without any issues. Use a sanding block and be sure to wipe after to remove any dust before adding the next coat of primer.
3. Testing Paints
This is by far the most important step in your preparation phase. Ensure that you shake the can thoroughly, so you hear the ball bearing bouncing to mix the paint properly. Take a piece of wood or cardboard and start to spray dots to see the quality of the paint before applying onto the canvas. This also gives you a great opportunity to practice your technique and judge the distance of your can before applying the paint.
