Coronavirus: Train service between India and Bangladesh suspended, Maitri and Bandhan Express halted

The Maitree Express operates between Kolkata to Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, while the Bandhan Express connects Kolkata to Khulna city. Maitri and Bandhan Express will be postponed from 15 March to 15 April or until further orders.

The India-Bangladesh passenger rail service between the cities of Kolkata and Bangladesh and Bangladesh was suspended on Sunday in view of the threat of Coronavirus.

According to the news of PTI, the officials of Eastern Railway told that this step has been taken based on the instructions of the Central Government. He told that Maitri and Bandhan Express will be postponed from March 15 to April 15 or until further orders.

Officials said that the Maitree Express operates between Kolkata and Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, while the Bandhan Express connects Kolkata to Khulna city.

Kolkata, the headquarters of Mandal Railway, has also started a campaign to spread awareness among people and railway personnel in various divisions, including Sealdah, Howrah and Asansol, about cleanliness, fever, cough, cold and isolation.

The official said that isolation wards have been set up at the Headquarters Hospital at Sealdah and Sub Divisional Hospital at Howrah, Asansol, Malda Division Hospitals, Railway Workshop Hospital at Lilua, Kanchanpada and Andal.

He said that the work of cleaning the doors of the most visited places like people, the doors at the entrance of railway coaches, toilets, is being done in the Asansol division.

In view of the increasing case of coronavirus, the government is taking caution at every level. Indian Railways is currently working vigorously on the cleanliness of trains across the country to fight the coronavirus.

Indian Railways has announced that now the train will not receive blankets from the railway side.

According to the PRO of Western Railway, the railway will no longer give blankets to passengers travelling in AC coaches. They say that blankets are not cleaned daily, so this decision has been taken. Railways have requested passengers to bring blankets for themselves during the journey.
