Ibanez Guitars: Jazzy Instruments with a Rock and Roll Past and a Popular Future

Ibanez has found a home in the heart of the musical genres of hard rock and heavy metal, grunge and punk, and even jazz and R&B. The company was bound to be responsible for producing interesting products from the start, being a Spanish brand purchased by a Japanese company and eventually marketed toward Americans. It took a law suit filed by Gibson in the 1970’s for copying the classical American brands to really set the Ibanez brand on the right creative and innovative track.

Ibanez Marks its Brand

After much research and development done by Hoshino, the owner of Ibanez, the brand finally marketed some of their own notable designs. Innovative features of the new electric guitars marketed by Ibanez included sleeker bodies, slimmer headstocks and necks with triangular designs, various design options for pick-ups, and locking tremolo systems.

Ibanez Artist Series

The Artist Series was the first series of Ibanez guitars released as a result of the brand’s collaboration with popular veteran guitar players. This first series of theirs was made popular by the Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir. Almost immediately following the Artist Series, the brand released the Iceman Series made popular by KISS’s Paul Stanley, as well as the Destroyer Series made popular by Iron Maiden’s Adrian Smith. This collection gave Ibanez a place in the heart of rock and roll and proved that they were capable of producing their own unique models.

Contributions beyond Rock and Roll

After Ibanez designed their jazz guitar series for such notable artists such as George Benson, Pat Metheny, and John Scofield, their brand expanded beyond rock and roll. While working on their jazz collection, Ibanez also introduced their Musician Line, a line of bass guitars made popular by Earth, Wind, and Fire’s Verdine White and the Spin Doctor’s Mark White, who both had signature models made for them by Ibanez. By the end of the 1980s, Ibanez had succeeded in overcoming the lawsuit that had previously threatened their downfall and had expanded their innovative creations. They had risen to become one of the most popular brands for a wide range of musical styles.

Ibanez Today

Today, Ibanez is still creating innovative instruments that combine the latest technology in music with the signature quality sound that they have been known for from the start. They offer a full range of electric guitars, including their popular acoustic electric models, as well as 4, 5, and 6-string bass guitars of their signature Soundgear and Ergodyne models. They also produce amplifiers and a full range of music accessories which they include with their guitar kits.

Ibanez is best known for their reasonably priced guitar kits and jazz boxes, offering everything that a beginner musician needs to start out, including strings, picks, straps, electronic tuners, and DVDs. They have also become one of the most popular bass companies in the entire world. Though many famous musicians are responsible for the brand’s popularity and still stand by the brand today, Ibanez has kept their products competitively priced compared with other leading guitar companies, which makes them a popular choice among beginners and experts alike.
