Breathtaking Facts about Asthma and Allergies

There are several triggers and conditions that will predispose an individual to asthma and allergies. For example, 33 percent of all children having one parent who suffers from allergies will also develop allergies. Seventy percent of children with two parents who suffer from allergies will also develop allergies. Pet dander is a trigger for asthma and allergies. Pet dander is more prevalent in homes with one or more pets. However, 100 percent of all U.S. homes with cats and dogs have detectable levels of pet dander. In homes with one or more cats, 36 percent have detectable levels of pet dander. Thirty-nine percent of homes with dogs have detectable levels of dander.

Poor indoor air quality is also a trigger for symptoms of asthma and allergies. Many factors reduce the quality of indoor air, including smoking, dust, mold in the home, pollen, use of household chemicals and lack of fresh air. Because we spend most of our lives indoors, poor indoor air quality is believe to be a major contributor to the symptoms of asthma and allergies.
